Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre was an absolute sensation back in the 90s and the 2000s, having done big films like Diljale, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Duplicate, and many others.

That era of the industry saw many actresses rule the industry and Sonali was clearly one of them, such was her screen presence and acting talent.

As you’d know already, Sonali has not been starring in movies for quite a while, however, she recently did make her comeback to the screens by starring in The Broken News OTT series.

Now, recalling her early days in the industry, Sonali spoke about some elements of Bollywood that could be referred to as dark. While speaking in an interview, Sonali spoke about how she was often body shamed and told how she wouldn’t be successful.

“Being skinny was not the standard of beauty back in the 90s, so voluptuousness was the standard of beauty. I was told you were just not a woman enough if you were not voluptuous, you know which it shouldn’t be,” said Sonali.

Sonali isn’t the only actress who’s spoken about body-shaming in Bollywood, with many other actors also bringing it to notice in past interviews. While Sonali is now cruising forward in the web series space, she also revealed how she had one regret while working with Laal Singh Chaddha actor Aamir Khan.

“I definitely want to be working now. I’m enjoying it so much. Now I’m no longer an accidental actor. I’m choosing to do this. Now I don’t have an excuse if I don’t get it right. When I did Sarfarosh with Aamir, I enjoyed it. I missed the opportunity to consciously learn from him during Sarfarosh.” she said while speaking to Film Companion.
